Is this coin flip fair?

Yes. Every flip uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), so heads and tails each have exactly a 50% chance and no flip depends on the one before. Streaks of five or six heads in a row are normal and happen about once every 32 or 64 flips.

When do you flip coins in the Pokémon TCG?

At the start of the game, the winner of a coin flip chooses who goes first. During the game you flip for many attacks, for Asleep (heads wakes up) and Burned (heads recovers) during Pokémon Checkup, and before a Confused Pokémon attacks (tails means the attack fails and the Pokémon takes 30 damage).

If an attack tells you to flip a number of coins, flip them all and then count the heads. If it says "flip a coin until you get tails", the tails flip ends the sequence and does not count as heads.

Using the coin in a real match

Agree with your opponent before the match that you will use a digital coin and that both players can see the result. In sanctioned events, check with the organiser: many allow a phone coin as long as the result is clearly visible to both players. The PTCG Companion match counter has the same coin built in next to the damage controls.

Frequently asked questions

What does "flip until tails" mean?

Keep flipping until the first tails. The number of heads before that tails is your result, so the result can be 0 if the first flip is tails.

Can I flip several coins at once?

Yes. Choose 2 to 10 coins and the tool shows every coin and the total number of heads.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Once the page has loaded it keeps working offline, which is useful in game stores with poor signal.
